MTMS wins Blue Ribbon School Award

We are extremely proud and honored to relay to you that earlier today, Arne Duncan, the Secretary of United States Department of Education, announced that Mendham Township Middle School has earned the 2014 Blue Ribbon Award as an "Exemplary High Performing School."  If you are interested in watching Secretary Duncan's broadcast, simply do a YouTube search for 2014 Blue Ribbon Award.

Since the Blue Ribbon Award's inception in 1982 (32 years ago), we are only the 21st public middle school in the entire state of New Jersey to earn this award and the first-ever public middle school in Morris County!  The award reflects our students' exemplary academic achievement and the fulfillment of all "Adequately Yearly Progress" (AYP) indicators over the past 5 years.  During the same time period, MTMS has also earned the coveted New Jersey Reward School title for the past three consecutive years since 2011, when Reward School designation began.  Only two other middle schools statewide have achieved the same!

The New Jersey Department of Education recently released 2013 NJASK test scores, which for the first time reflect attainment of the "higher set of academic expectations" found in the mathematics and language arts Common Core Standards.  I am excited to tell you that MTMS students performed at the highest levels in school history in almost all areas of 2013 Common Core Standards testing.  The following results highlight our students' success on the 2013 administration of NJ state testing:

Total School Scores (Total Population)

MATH

97% of our students passed math section

80% of our students earned advanced proficient ratings in math section

34% of our students earned a perfect score of 300 in math section

LANGUAGE ARTS

98% of our students passed the language arts section

42% of our students earned advanced proficient ratings in language arts

Additional Areas of Noteworthy Achievement

SPECIAL EDUCATION

92%  of our students with IEPs passed the math section

98% of our students with IEPs passed the language arts section

GRADE 8 MATH (2013 GRADUATES)

92 of 110 students earned ADVANCED PROFICIENT ratings in math section

55 of 110 students earned PERFECT score of 300 ratings in math section

The chart below illustrates how MTMS students performed on the 2013 NJASK tests versus our "J" District Factor Group (DFG) peers statewide.  MTMS students scored higher than the J DFG average in every area at every grade level.  As an example, the chart below reveals that 58% more MTMS 7th grade students earned an Advanced Proficient rating in language arts than the average of our DFG.
